The State Highway Patrol is searching for the person who hit three teenagers on U.S. 421 in Harnett County on Saturday night and drove off.
Two of the three teens were killed at the scene, and a third is in critical but stable condition in Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, Highway Patrol spokesman Jeff Gordon said in a press release.
The teens, ages 13, 14, and 16, had just left a Kangaroo gas station after purchasing drinks and snacks and were returning to one of the teen’s home when they were struck near McNeil Mill Road at about 11:15 p.m., Gordon said. After hitting the teens, the driver immediately drove off, he said.
Jennifer Schark, 13, and Kyle Straight, 16, both of Broadway, died at the scene. Steven Daniels, 14, of Sanford was taken to the hospital.

Investigators are attempting to determine the make and model of the vehicle that hit the teens and will review surveillance cameras from nearby businesses, Gordon said.
