An 18-year-old Wake County man died Wednesday morning when the pickup truck he was driving struck trees and he was thrown from it, the State Highway Patrol said.
Troopers said Christopher Jose Reynaga Sanchez of 1500 Cherry Laurel Drive died at the scene. Sanchez, who lived about a mile away, off Lake Wheeler Road, was not wearing a seatbelt, said Sgt. Michael Baker, a Highway Patrol spokesman.
The crash happened on Simpkins Road between Lake Wheeler Road and Horseshoe Drive a little before 6:30 a.m.
Baker said a preliminary investigation concluded that Sanchez was headed east on Simpkins Road when he went onto the right shoulder of the road. He over-corrected and went across the center of the road and off the shoulder on the other side, hitting the trees, Baker said.
Never miss a local story.
The troopers at the scene think excessive speed was a factor in the crash, but that was subject to a complete investigation, Baker said.
