State troopers said Thursday that they hope the public can help them find a mid-1990s pickup truck that they are trying to track down in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed two teenagers in Harnett County earlier this month and hurt a third.
The truck is a GMC or Chevrolet vehicle, and its front end was damaged in the accident. Sgt. Michael Baker, a State Highway Patrol spokesman, said troopers believe it is a white truck and has loud exhaust pipes.
The teens were hit Jan. 16 while they were walking on U.S. 421 near McNeill Mill Road about 11:15 p.m. They had gone to a convenience store for drinks and snacks and were walking back to one of their homes, troopers said at the time.
Jennifer Schark, 13, and Kyle Straight, 16, both of Broadway, died. Steven Daniels, 14, of Sanford was critically injured, Baker said.
People who believe they have information that can help troopers were asked to call the State Highway Patrol Communications Center at 800-334-7411 or the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office at 910-893-9111.
