Investigators said Sunday they are monitoring the conditions of the four cyclists injured in Johnston County Saturday before deciding on charges in the case.
Four bicyclists were injured Saturday afternoon when they were hit by a car near McGee’s Crossroads, according to the State Highway Patrol.
A WakeMed spokeswoman said cyclists Michael Dayton, 60, and Lynn Lashley, 57, were in critical condition Sunday afternoon. Two other riders involved in the wreck, Christopher Graham, 34; and Joel Arthur Lawrence, 57, were no longer at the hospital.
“No charges have been filed as of yet,” Highway Patrol spokesman Jeff Gordon said Sunday. “Investigators are awaiting to see the conditions/outlook of those injured before charges are made.”
Authorities said Saturday that a 1992 Crown Victoria was traveling north on Massengill Pond Road near Sue Drive at 2:45 p.m. when it hit the bicyclists, who were in a single-file line, from the rear. The collision threw all four, who were transported to Wake Medical Center.
Authorities said the car’s driver, Donnie Marie Williams, 50, was not injured. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the case.
Troopers are continuing their investigation into this case.
