Police who were dealing with a man on the Interstate 40 bridge at Rock Quarry Road closed the highway for about 90 minutes Wednesday morning, creating backups on alternate routes into and through the city from the south.
Officers shut down the road about 6 a.m. and reopened it about 7:30 a.m. after the 45-year-old man left the bridge.
The man was unhurt and was being evaluated, police said later in the day.
They did not disclose his name or why they believed he was on the interstate.
Never miss a local story.
The incident took place in the same general area where I-40 was shut down just before the afternoon commute on Feb. 16 because a 16-year-old girl was on the bridge.
Eastbound traffic was diverted off I-40 at Hammond Road. Westbound traffic was diverted onto westbound I-440 during the closing.
