The bus in Wake Forest, which officials said was carrying 27 students, was bound for Heritage Elementary and Heritage Middle schools, town spokesman Bill Crabtree said.
Later in the morning, a bus taking 37 students to Bugg Elementary School at 825 Cooper Road was involved in an accident at Poole and Williams roads, school officials and police said.
Never miss a local story.
The Wake Forest crash happened at Rogers Road and Farm Street. The schools are at 3500 Rogers Road, a little over a mile from the crash scene.
Crabtree said people in the other vehicles reported minor injuries.
Police investigators were determining how the crash happened.
A second school bus picked up the students and took them to their schools, Crabtree said.
