One person died and at least two were hurt in a Tuesday morning crash between a tractor-trailer and an SUV at Zebulon and Fowler roads in northeastern Wake County, the state Highway Patrol said.
Lt. Jeff Gordon, a highway patrol spokesman, said Zebulon Road, also designated as N.C. 96, would be closed for several hours while troopers from the patrol’s crash-reconstruction unit determined how the accident happened.
The fatality was believed to be a woman who was driving the SUV, Gordon said.
The 18-wheeler was carrying lumber that was scattered with other debris along a field on the northeast corner of the intersection, where both vehicles came to rest.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene shortly after 8:30 a.m.
