A stretch of East Six Forks Road near Wake Forest Road will remain closed through Wednesday afternoon after a water main break Sunday night.
Public utilities workers closed all lanes of traffic in the 100 and 200 blocks of East Six Forks Road between Anderson Drive and Selby Drive for an emergency water main repair, said Raleigh spokesman Damien Graham.
Although the ruptured water main has been repaired and water service restored, the road must be repaved and the work is not expected to be completed until about 6 p.m. Wednesday, Graham said.
In the meantime, city officials are urging motorists should avoid the area.
Authorities say motorists heading north on East Six Forks Road should proceed on Wake Forest Road to the I-440 Beltline and go westbound to the Six Forks Road exit. Motorists heading south are asked to turn onto the eastbound Beltline at Six Forks Road and exit at Wake Forest Road.
