State troopers are appealing to the public to help them find a car driver whose vehicle hit a moped in Johnston County and sent its rider to a hospital, then took off Thursday.
The State Highway Patrol said it was a little before 7 a.m. when Carl William Holmes, 39, of Zebulon was riding south on N.C. 39 near Creech Johnson Road when a car came up behind him and hit his moped.
Holmes did not sustain life-threatening injuries, troopers said, but he was taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh for treatment.
Investigators asked anyone with information about the collision to contact the Johnston County Highway Patrol Office at 919- 934- 2186 or the Highway Patrol Communications Center at 919-733-3861.
