Overnight work Wednesday night on the three-year I-40 / I-440 rebuild project will close two lanes on I-440 East in southeast Raleigh, NCDOT said.

That means drivers will be crammed into a single lane as they head east on the Inner Beltline between Poole Road and the I-40 split. Two lanes will be closed from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Crews will drill core samples of the existing pavement. All lanes will be open for the morning rush hour traffic, NCDOT said.
