Watch for I-440 East lane closings Mon-Tues-Wed nights

NCDOT’s Beltline rebuild project will close lanes at night on I-440 East in southeast Raleigh, from Sunnybrook Road to the I-40 split, on the nights of Monday, Nov. 4, through Wednesday, Nov. 6. Daytime lane closures start in December.

Work crews will be closing lanes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights along part of the Interstate 440 East (Inner Beltline) in Southeast Raleigh while they set up barrier walls on the shoulders, the state Department of Transportation said.

The I-440 East lanes will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. from the Sunnybrook Road underpass to the I-40 split. It’s part of preparations for construction in the median of a temporary asphalt plant that will be used in a three-year project to rebuild 11.5 miles of the I-40 and I-440 southern Beltline.

More nighttime lane closures are expected through November. Starting in December, drivers on the I-440 Beltline section in southeast Raleigh will find traffic slowed by daytime lane closures.

Work began in late October on the I-440 section at the southeast elbow of the Beltline, where crews will close lanes and squeeze traffic over the next 12 months. Starting in the fall of 2014, the work and the rush-hour delays will move to the I-40 section in south and southwest Raleigh.
