Work resumes Friday night after a holiday break on a three-year Beltline repair project in southeast Raleigh, and more sections of the inner lanes on westbound Interstate 440 will be closed early next week, the state Department of Transportation said.

Crews will install concrete barriers along two inner lanes of I-440 West from the I-40 split to Poole Road. On Sunday or Monday night, they plan to extend the lane closures from Poole to the U.S. 64/264 exit.

Also, DOT said, I-440 West will be closed for 15 minutes near the ramp from I-40 Tuesday night and possibly Wednesday night, to allow the installation overhead of an electrical power line.

Eventually, both inside lanes will be closed for the entire three miles of I-440, eastbound as well as westbound, between the I-40 split and U.S. 64/264. The I-440 East lane closings have not been scheduled. Once the inside lanes are closed and traffic is using the two outer lanes, crews will begin demolishing and replacing the inside lanes.
