Durham police said Wednesday that the man who died Sunday after being struck by a train has been identified as Corbin Lee Valdez, 23 years old. Police did not provide an address for Valdez.

Valdez had been standing on the tracks and turned and walked toward the approaching Amtrak Piedmont locomotive after the engineer sounded his horn in an effort to warn him away, state transportation officials said earlier this week. He was killed on the tracks near Neal Road, as the southbound Piedmont was accelerating after a stop at the Durham station.

His was one of two deaths linked to the same train, and investigators said Valdez may have committed suicide. State and railroad and local authorities also are investigating the death of Ricardo Aleman, 36, whose body was found on the tracks in Greensboro Sunday afternoon.
