A Murfreesboro man convicted of three armed robberies in Eastern North Carolina has been sentenced to more than 72 years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Henderson Lewis Hinton, 31, was sentenced to 872 months in prison on Friday by U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle. Hinton’s residence wasn’t immediately available.

Hinton pointed a revolver at his victims and demanded money in each of the three robberies. The robberies occurred in October 2006, one month after he was released from federal prison following his 2003 conviction for a bank robbery in Greenville, authorities said.

In December a jury convicted Hinton of two counts of armed robbery affecting interstate commerce, one count of armed bank robbery, and three counts of using a firearm during a violent crime, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Hinton was convicted of armed robberies that occurred at the Nationwide Insurance Agency in Ahoskie, Bennett Insurance Services in Rocky Mount and a Southern Bank branch in Scotland Neck.

Hinton was also ordered to make restitution to his victims. He received a total of $2,513 from the three robberies.
