Gold star

'I think it's a really cool way to tell stories. With literature, you have to know a language to tell a story. With film, no matter what language you speak, you can still learn something from it.'

STUDENT: Kelley Katzenmeyer, 10th grade

SCHOOL: Riverside High School, Durham

ACHIEVEMENT: A skilled amateur filmmaker, Kelley recently won praise for three short films she entered in a high school film festival. She also just won the grand prize -- an iPod -- in the "futureSOUTH" YouTube video contest sponsored by Southern Growth Policies Board.
