Helping out

HELP CREEDMOOR YOUTH GET TRANSPLANT: The Children's Organ Transplant Association, a national nonprofit that raises money to cover the costs of children's transplant operations, is raising money to help a Creedmoor youth with bone marrow failure. The charity and local volunteers in Creedmoor are raising money for Calvin Blevins, 6, the son of April Monroe. The youth has been diagnosed with bone marrow failure, and money is needed to pay for a cord-blood transplant. The charity is also seeking volunteers to help with fundraising. The tour, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., provides participants with a firsthand look at some of the places where Raleigh residents are raising chickens in their backyards. Participants should bring a nonperishable food item or a cash donation for Urban Ministries, a nonprofit group that provides essential basic services to families and individuals in Wake County. Last year, the tour collected 1,500 pounds of food and raised more than $2,000. Maps are available at: Steven B. Andreaus, DDS, PA: 1637 Glenwood Ave.; Ornamentea: 509 N.
