Missing woman's car found in Charlotte

The husband of an Angier woman who went missing in Charlotte said he last talked to his wife Tuesday, and that she missed appointments with friends Wednesday and Thursday.

Sallie Rohrbach, 44, a State Department of Insurance accountant, was in Charlotte conducting an audit, her husband, Tim Rohrbach said TODAY. The husband said it wasn’t unusual for his wife’s work to take a week.

Charlotte police found her state-owned car this morning at the Bojangles' at the corner of West Boulevard and South Tryon Street. They set up a command center in the parking lot of Price’s Chicken Coup, a local take-out restaurant near the Bojangles.

Officers spent the morning canvassing the area. But as of early afternoon, officials had said little more than they found her car. A spokeswoman with the Department of Insurance said that as far as the agency can determine, the last person to see Rohrbach was at the insurance agency she was auditing on Wednesday between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Rohrbach missed an appointment with her supervisor Thursday, and department staff called police to report her missing Friday evening after being unable to find anyone who'd seen her, said Chrissy Pearson, director of public information at the insurance department.

Pearson said Rohrbach, of 839 Chalybeate Springs Road in Angier, was doing an audit after the department received a complaint about an insurance agency. Pearson said the complaint was administrative and not criminal in nature, and that Rohrbach was a civilian employee.

The insurance department also has armed law enforcement investigators, and about eight of them are traveling to Charlotte to help in the investigation of Rohrbach's disappearance.

"We're just very concerned for her safety," Pearson said.

Tim Rohrbach said his wife normally works in the Triangle area, but went to Charlotte as a substitute for a colleague.

"She was actually covering for somebody else," he said.

Tim Rohrbach said he didn't think the audit had anything to do with his wife's disappearance. He said his wife has friends in the Charlotte area, and had made plans to meet them Wednesday and Thursday evenings, but apparently never showed.

The husband also said he spent most of the day Saturay in Charlotte with police.

Charlotte police found her car in the parking lot of the Bojangles' restaurant at the corner of West Boulevard and South Tryon Road.

Tim Rohrbach said he was surprised to hear the car had been found at a Bojangles, saying his wife wasn't a fan of fast food.

"She might have gone there to get a diet Pepsi, but she didn't go there to eat," he said.

Anyone who sees Rohrbach is asked to call the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department at 704-336-2311 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
