Two Raleigh high schools rank in top 100
RALEIGH - Two Raleigh schools have again made Newsweek’s annual ranking of top
100 top public high Schools in America. Raleigh Charter High School came in 27th on the newsmagazine’s latest
list, compared to 20th in 2007. Enloe High School came in 72nd,
compared to 56th the previous year. The rankings are based on the number of Advanced Placement,
International Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all
students at a school in 2007 divided by the number of graduating
seniors. Newsweek's list ranked 1,353 high schools. Other Triangle high schools on the list include East Chapel Hill at
145th, Chapel Hill at 237th, Jordan at 299th, Durham School of the Arts
at 305th, Broughton at 443rd, Green Hope at 594th and Wakefield at
1,163. The findings are sharply different from ones from U.S. News & World
Report in December which had no Triangle schools among its list of top
1,591 public high schools. Unlike Newsweek, U.S. News specifically factored the performance of
low-income and minority students into its rankings. The latest Newsweek rankings will be released in the May 26th edition.
