Triangle Transit seeks public opinion

Triangle Transit wants to hear from the public about its draft plan for expanding services, service quality and partnerships throughout the Triangle.

The Short-Range Transit Plan will guide the agency for the next five years. Projects that would coordinate local and regional services include the following routes:

-- Hillsborough Street between downtown Raleigh and Carter-Finley Stadium;

-- US 15-501 between UNC - Chapel Hill, Duke University and downtown Durham; and

-- NC 54 between downtown Cary, Morrisville and the RTP area

New services being considered include:

-- Wake Forest - Downtown Raleigh (beginning July 2008);

-- Zebulon / Wendell / Knightdale - Wake Medical Center - downtown Raleigh;

-- Fuquay-Varina - Wake Tech - downtown Raleigh;

-- Clayton / Garner - downtown Raleigh;

-- Pittsboro - UNC;

-- North Raleigh - RTP;

-- Burlington / Mebane / Hillsborough - Duke - downtown Durham;

-- Person County Line - Durham Regional Hospital - Duke - downtown Durham;

-- Holly Springs / Apex / Cary - NCSU - downtown Raleigh; and

-- Downtown Raleigh - RDU Airport (direct service). Other items being considered focus on funding and service quality issues such as comfortable bus stops, speed and on-time performance.

The Triangle Transit Board of Trustees' public hearing will be at 1 p.m. June 25 at its office at 68 TW Alexander Drive, Suite 1000, in Research Triangle Park. Those who want to comment but can't attend the meeting are urged to write to John Tallmadge, director of commuter resources at serviceplanning@triangletransit.org or at P.O.
