15 pounds of marijuana seized

HOLLY SPRINGS - In what Holly Springs police are calling the town's largest marijuana seizure, police have recovered 15 pounds of the drug in a downtown house.

A suspect inside the house was taken into custody and was questioned at police headquarters, according to police.

The drug raid occurred at 401 Raleigh St., a single-family house that is less than two blocks from Town Hall. Officers also confiscated $3,900 from a safe inside the home.

The marijuana was packaged in bags, most of which were in boxes in a bedroom, said Capt. Mike Bornes. Investigators valued the marijuana at more than $68,000.

Holly Springs police had received information that there would be drugs in the house, police said.

The Raleigh and Apex police departments assisted in the investigation, which is continuing.
