RALEIGH - N.C. Department of Transportation cameras along Interstate 40 and other highways in the Triangle are not working.According to a DOT spokeswoman, the cameras are down due to maintenance. The cameras allow the public to check road conditions and also provide a way for the DOT to spot wrecks and breakdowns. Officials then alert motorist assistance vehicles to respond to drivers who need help. The public can also see the Web cams on DOT's Web site www.ncdot.org.There were rumors the cameras had been turned off for Vice President Dick Cheney's visit to the area yesterday. Cheney and other dignitaries were here to attend former U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms' funeral.
