CARY - Police have charged a woman with taking nearly $40,000 from her employer through unauthorized credit card purchases and by writing company checks to herself, court records show.

Deandra Lynn Gregory, 41, of 109 Storm Court in Cary was charged Thursday with two counts of felony embezzlement, according to arrest warrants filed at the Wake County Magistrate's Office.

The offenses occurred in 2006, court records show.

Police have accused Gregory of racking up $21,643.70 in unauthorized credit card charges in April 2006 while working for Holder Mechanical Designs on Chapel Hill Road in Cary.

Police also think Gregory forged 24 company checks seven months later, then cashed them to obtain $17,579.51 for her own use, court records show.

Gregory was jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail, court records show.
