A federal grand jury has indicted a former doctor from Cary on charges of illegally prescribing drugs, including oxycodone, fentanyl, diazepam and alprazolam, from a clinic in Sampson County.

Perry Reese III, 49, was named in a three-count indictment Wednesday, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Thursday. The indictment charges him with two counts of distributing a controlled substance and one count of racketeering.

Reese ran Roseboro Urgent Care in Roseboro until law enforcement agents closed the office in April 2003. The state Board of Medical Examiners revoked his medical license in 2005. At the time, his address was listed in Cary.

The indictment charges that from April 2002 to April 2003, drug users would come to the Roseboro office and ask at the front desk for a prescription. The person at the front desk would ask the drug user how many pills he or she wanted and then provide a prescription for a price. The person at the front desk would then take the money to Reese, according to the indictment.
