CARY -- Police have released the name of a 25-year-old Cary man killed in a vehicle crash this morning, but they are still searching for the driver of a passenger car they think caused the accident.
The victim, Lincoln Ross Woods, of 144 Long Champ Lane, died at the scene, Capt. Michael Williams with the Cary police said this afternoon.
Woods died when his Jeep Grand Cherokee was struck by a school bus in West Cary, police reported.
Now investigators are looking for a gray, Ford Taurus that ran a stop sign. Witnesses told police that the traffic violation caused the accident, Williams said.
No children were on the bus at the time of the crash, and the bus driver was unhurt, police reported.
"The bus had just dropped the kids off," Williams said.
The accident occurred just before 9 a.m. on Morrisville-Carpenter Road near the intersection of Good Hope Church Road.
Investigators said the school bus was traveling in the westbound lane of Morrisville-Carpenter Road and the Jeep Cherokee was traveling east.
Witnesses told police that the Ford Taurus ran a stop sign at the intersection, and the school bus ran off the right side of the road to avoid hitting the vehicle. The bus driver then pulled the bus back onto the road and the bus crossed the center line, striking the driver's side of the Jeep.
Police are asking anyone with information about the fatal wreck to call the Cary Police Department at 919-469-4338.
