RALEIGH - The Raleigh City Council has unanimously voiced its opposition to a proposed state law that would impose restrictions on municipal housing inspectors. The bill, which has been approved by the state Senate and is awaiting action by the House, would require inspectors to have probable cause, such as a formal complaint, before inspecting a residence and writing it up for violations.

The resolution introduced by council member Thomas Crowder, which was passed Tuesday, urges the Wake County delegation in the House to vote against the bill. The resolution contends that such a law would impair the city's ability "to insure safe and adequate housing conditions."
