Fall injures worker at RBC Plaza

closeA worker was injured Monday morning after falling 12 to 15 feet down an elevator shaft at the site of the RBC Plaza under construction at Fayetteville and Martin streets in downtown Raleigh.
The worker fell from about the 21st floor of the high-rise construction site at 234 Fayetteville St., according to a report from the Raleigh Fire Department.
A supervisor from Hardin construction called authorities, who lowered the victim to ground level using a crane. The patient, who has not been identified, was taken to WakeMed.

Division Chief James Poole of the Raleigh Fire Department said the worker broke his ribs and an ankle.
The accident happened about 8:45 a.m. The arrival of emergency vehicles and related activity slowed rush-hour traffic downtown.
Firefighters last month trained at the same site on dealing with accidents, and their familiarity with the property led to a faster, safer rescue, Poole said.
