GREAT REASON TO GOLF

A little birdie told me to keep an eagle eye out for a fund-raiser to raise a bunch o green for the Wake County Autism Society.

OK. I'm not a golfer so II could only come up with three punny words (birdie, eagle and green for fellow clueless folks) to let you know about the Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament.

The tournament will be held on April 25 at 1:30 at River Ridge Golf Club. But you'll need to register by April 18, so that's the date to keep in mind.

Green fees, cart and barbeque dinner will are included in the fee of $70.

There will be prizes, a raffle and contests including closest to the pin, hit-the-green competition, putting contest and the longest drive.

The format will be a four-person team Captain's Choice, but you can register either as an individual or as a team.

Among the real leaves are hand-cast leaves used at stakes. These and other nature-themed creations will be on sale Saturday.

A GARDEN ART SHOW, NATURALLY

Artists will be displaying garden sculptures, hand-thrown ceramic birdhouses, botanical art, crystalline glazed pots, jewelry, concrete leaf sculpturesand metal art. And there will be plenty of plants for sale, too.

All this on Saturday at the 2nd Spring Open Garden & Art Sale from 10 a.m .t o 4 p.m at 4904 Hermitage Dr.

This year the emphasis is on conservation techniques for gardening, from composting, mulching, watering, to bed preparation.

TADPOLE TRACKING

Join a nature instructor at Eastgate Park on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. and learn all about the tadpoles as well as different kinds of frogs and toads that begin life as tadpoles in the pond. The class is open to participants from 8-12 years of age and the fee is $3.

Be prepared to get muddy.

SWAMP THINGS

Wade through unwanted items and find yourself some buried treasure at a yard sale to benefit the Greystone Gators swim team.

The sale is at the neighborhood's swim and racquet club, 1115 Sawmill Road (between Creedmoor and Lead Mine roads) from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

According to the organizers, some neighbors even offer baked goods to sweeten the pot!
