We can't promise it'll be warm enough to swim, but we do know that most pools will be opening this weekend, so it won't hurt to drop by and stick your toe -- or your whole body -- in the water and find out whether summer has begun.
The city has a couple of community pools in North Raleigh, but just one is open, at the Millbrook Exchange Park, 1905 Spring Forest Road. A wading pool and spray ground will be available this summer there as well. The pool is open year-round but will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day. The other, the Optimist Pool, is closed for renovations.
You can find out more about the pools by going to
www.raleighnc.govIn Wake Forest, the Parks & Recreation Department is opening the Holding Park Pool for the season on Saturday. The pool is at 133 W. Owen Avenue. Go to

The 'anti-ouch pouch' looks like a purse but acts more like a pillow.
SEW ... WHAT?
If you've got any sewing skills at all, you can pitch in for a good cause and help a local chapter of the American Sewing Guild help breast cancer patients.
On May 31, a group will gather to sew "anti-ouch pouches" for women who have had surgery. The pouches look like purses but are soft and rest between the arm and the breast area to ease pain.
The sewing will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wake County Commons Building on Carya Drive in Raleigh. Anyone who wants to help can stop in for a little while or stay the whole time. Supplies will be provided.
