A bid to the 2008 Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships is the icing on the cake in the Triangle Volleyball Club's best season ever.

Coming off a record six out of seven first-place finishes in the Carolina Regional Championships in April, the Triangle Club has sent eight teams to the Junior Olympics, which runs through Saturday in Dallas.

This is the most bids earned by any single club in the 26-year history of the Carolina region, according to the club's Web site.

Early in the competition, the Triangle club's 18 National Black team tied for 11th place.

The team of 18-year-olds includes North Raleigh athletes Stephanie Holler of Wake Forest-Rolesville High School; Katie Kabbes, Katie Camp and Cayla Shortley of Cardinal Gibbons High School; and Kathleen Slay of Wakefield High School.

"We have had an amazing year, and our athletes are getting much national attention," said Triangle Volleyball Club marketing director Sherry Fadool.

In March, Camp and Kabbes, who graduated this year from Cardinal Gibbons, were featured on the cover of Volleyball Magazine.

Other Triangle Volleyball Club teams competing in the Junior Olympics are 18 Blue, 17 Black, 16 Black, 15 Black, 15 Blue, 14 Black and 14 Blue.
