Golfers honor dear friend

Ron Francis counts himself as one of the late Chris Bunn's biggest fans.

Francis, who is assistant general manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, will be golfing in the sold-out Continuous Blessings Foundation tournament at North Ridge Country Club on Monday.

Bunn, 41, died Sept. 27 of LeioMyoSarcoma, a rare form of cancer. The C.B. Foundation was started in his memory.

Bunn was a husband, a father, an avid golfer, and a friend to hundreds. He worked as a financial adviser for Merrill Lynch.

More than 1,500 people attended his funeral, according o Dabney Bunn, his wife.

"He touched everyone he met with his love of people," she said.

Francis met Bunn after moving next door to Dabney's sister.

"Chris had no ego," Francis said. "He was no different on the golf course, at work, at dinner."

The tournament has raised more than $100,000, with more expected to be raised at a party and silent auction the day of the event.

Proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the LMSarcoma Direct Research Foundation.

"Hopefully this tournament and the C.B. Foundation will be the start of Chris's legacy in terms of reaching people," Francis said. "Chris was unselfish. He gave to others, and it is important that he is not forgotten."
