This may look like an old photo - mostly because of the gasoline prices posted on the signs - but it's not. Dick Cicone took it about two months ago. Cicone was taking care of a chore in southwestern tip of Wake County when he came across this scene at the corner of U.S. 1 and New Hill-Olive Chapel Road.

"It's reminiscent of earlier days of lower-priced gas," said Cicone, a retired project manager who lives in northwest Raleigh. "I'm a little bit peeved about where gas prices are at right now. I don't know who to blame... Prices have gone a little bit ridiculous on us."

Cicone took the photo with a Canon 5D. He avoided color for artistic reasons. "The image, to me, made a better statement in black and white than in color," he said.

Cicone said he likes to shoot old buildings to before they are lost to development. He certainly seems to have captured a bygone era here.
