The state Department of Transportation began replacing a bridge on Leesville Road near the Wake-Durham County line this week. The project, which is expected to cost $1.1 million and take a year to complete, will result in intermittent daily lane closures along the two-lane road. The only time drivers are guaranteed not to face lane closures is between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The project will cover a roughly quarter-mile stretch of Leesville Road that passes over Sycamore Creek. The work includes realigning the road to lessen the severity of the curves.Cadmus Capeheart, the DOT resident engineer in charge of the project, said the current bridge will be replaced with a pair of box culverts that will measure 11-feet by 9-feet. The culverts will be constructed away from where the current bridge is located."We won't have any offsite detours," Capeheart said. The traffic count along that section of Leesville Road is 12,000 cars a day.
