Q. I have noticed that the sign for the U.S. post office at Crabtree Valley Mall is missing the "A" in "Carolina" in the address line on the outside of the building. In fact, I think this letter has been missing for at least 10 years.

Who is responsible for this sign and will it ever be corrected?

Why not place a new sign with the ZIP code (27612) on the outside of the building since the rest of the mall is getting a facelift?

Has this current sign been in place since the mall opened in 1972?

A. Here are the answers to your questions, in the order you asked them:

* The post office, apparently, was not aware of the missing letter. Cathel Brown, manager of consumer affairs manager of the Postal Service's Greensboro District, wishes to thank you for bringing the problem of the missing "A" to her attention.

Brown said that someone at the Crabtree Valley Station post office went outside and confirmed that, indeed, there was a missing letter. She plans to submit a work order for the repair.

"It will be taken care of right away," she said.

* As for posting the ZIP code on the building, that is a dated practice, Brown said. Newer offices simply have the new U.S. Postal Service's blue-and-white eagle logo on the building, and no longer have the location's city, state or ZIP code.

* That post office has been open since 1974, but there are no plans for a facelift, said Carl Walton, spokesman for the Postal Service's Greensboro district. Adding a second floor was once contemplated as part of the mall's expansion now underway. The agency is not moving forward with those plans right now, Walton said.
