It's not too late to purchase notecards from the 2005 Gifts of Gold visual arts show of the Wake Education Partnership, a community-based public school advocacy organization. The notecards display artwork from Wake County Students, including Kyain Sandiago from Root Elementary School and West Millbrook Middle School student Samantha Carlton.

Kyain's artwork is entitled "Tooth Fairy" and Samantha's is called "Mischievous."

Students across the county submitted artwork for the Gifts of Gold visual arts show in March. Six pieces of art were chosen to be reprinted on notecards.

The notecards come in a set of 12, with two of each design, and sell for $10. Proceeds go towards the partnership and Wake County Schools' support for arts education.

Calling all science teachers: The iScienceProject is holding a science contest from now until Aug. 31. The contest will give teachers the opportunity to borrow a data logger and perform a science experiment.

According to the Web site, www.iscienceproject.com, the data logger is a small device that measures things like air temperatures, matter and humidity.

Winners can get new equipment for their classrooms.

Teachers can register on the Web site until July 15.

Congratulations to Hollie Edwards, a 2004 graduate of Millbrook High School and a rising sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, who was recently inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

The organization started in 1994 at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and has more than 205 chapters around the United States.
