One of my favorite school memories as a child was performing in holiday plays. I can imagine that many northern Wake students are excited about their upcoming performances, too. Here's what's happening:

* Our Lady of Lourdes first-graders will perform "The Living Nativity" at 9 a.m. today. The school is at 2710 Overbrook Drive. Call 782-1670 for more information.

* Kindergarten through second-grade students at Wake Forest Elementary School, 136 W. Sycamore Ave., will perform "A Holiday Moosical" at 2:15 p.m. today. First-graders at the school will dress up as different countries for a performance about holidays around the world at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 22.

Congratulations to the Spartans of Sanderson High School for doing their part to help fight hunger.

For the fourth year, the school won the Triangle Area Students Against Hunger Food Drive sponsored by the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. The school recently donated a check of more than $31,500 to the food bank and delivered more than 8,000 pounds of food.

Millbrook Elementary Magnet School families feasted on a holiday dinner Tuesday of turkey, greens and mashed potatoes and gravy for the PTA's annual Holiday Dinner and Show. The event is held for families at the school as a chance to mingle.

Parents enjoyed an afternoon of good food and entertainment by the school's fourth- and fifth-grade students and the school's step team, A Touch of Class.
