Two thumbs up to a few northern Wake students who were honored for their outstanding accomplishments and achievements during Wake schools' Spotlight On Students program.

The students were: fourth-grader Anthony Frisco of Jones Dairy Elementary; fifth-graders Carrissa Eiesland of Brassfield Elementary, Andersson Flores Aguilar of Durant Road Elementary; Yesenia Izeta Va'zquez of Heritage Elementary; Claire Isabelle Howell of Green Year-Round Elementary, Tamaya Monae Taylor of Wilburn Elementary and eighth-grader Tricia R. Simmons of Durant Road Middle.

The program has been in place since 1982. One of the goals of the program is for one student from each participating Wake County school to be honored by the end of the year.

The awards were given during the school board's Oct. 4 meeting.
