Principal eyes top prize

Congratulations and good luck to Freda Cole, Forest Pines Elementary School principal, who was nominated as a finalist for the Wake County Public School System Principal of the Year award. Cole, 49, has a master's degree in elementary education from North Carolina Central University.

Before leading Forest Pines, Cole was principal at Green Hope Elementary in Cary. Cole was also named a finalist for the title in 1998 and 2004.

The principal and assistant principal of the year celebrations will take place at 6 p.m. Oct. 27 at Exploris Museum.

Congratulations to Gregory Ellis, a sixth-grader at Magellan Charter School, who was chosen to play the role of Tom of Warwick in the North Carolina Theatre production of "Camelot." Performances run from Saturday through Sept. 18.
