A big congrats to the Durant Road Middle School Dolphin Track team. The 102-member team of seventh- and eighth-grade girls finished their last season winning their eighth conference title. The team has racked up 61 straight wins since 1998.

Coach Rodney Farlow, who has led the team since Durant opened in 1995, said the girls worked hard and had a lot of determination.

"I firmly believe the secret is making every kid feel welcomed and encourage them to keep working and improving," Farlow said.

The girls competed throughout Wake County. Their last competition before the school year ended was against Leesville Road and Wake Forest middle schools.

"A lot of girls scored points who had no idea they could even compete," said Farlow.

Emily Bode, a rising freshman at Wake Forest-Rolesville High School who threw the shot put during her eighth-grade year, said being undefeated was a great feeling.

"Durant has a reputation of being a good school and we knew how to work together and we wanted to keep the title," she said.
