If you're in the mood for some high-stepping foot action, head over Saturday to East Millbrook Middle School for the Holiday Stepshow.

The show features elementary, middle and high school step teams from across the state.

It starts at 4 p.m. and tickets are $5 in advance or $7 on Saturday.

Get your application in soon for admissions to the Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics program.

Open to rising juniors and seniors, students will spend a few weeks during the summer at one of four college campuses learning lab skills, math strategies and problem solving, and exploring data in math and science. Students also learn about careers in math and science fields and social issues related to science.

Participating colleges are Appalachian State University, East Carolina University, North Carolina Central University, UNC-Charlotte, UNC-Wilmington and Western Carolina University.

University professors, high school teachers and science and math professionals from institutions and government agencies work alongside student during the program.

Selection is based on academic ability, science and math motivation. The program is free for students admitted.

The deadline is Jan. 31.

Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 and 2:30 p.m. Dec. 2 and 9.
