Thank you. Those are two little words that can make a big difference in someone's life.

That's why the National PTA and the National Education Association are calling on students, parents and others to be a part of the nation's largest thank you card to teachers.

Those interested can visit the PTA's Web site, www.pta.org, or mail a card to The Nation's Largest Teacher Thank You Card, c/o NEA/PTA, P.O. Box 66458, Washington, D.C. 20035

Kelsey Kirchman sure knows a lot about state government.

Kelsey, a rising senior at Sanderson High School, recently spent a week attending the 68th session of the Tar Heel Girls State. More than 200 girls from North Carolina participated in the program.

The Tar Heel Girls State, which is open to rising seniors, teaches girls about various aspects of state and national government. It is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, an organization dedicated to empowering women through education and volunteerism.

Kelsey was elected a mayor in the program and also chosen as one of two delegates to serve as senator to the Girls Nation, another government program, held in Washington next week.
