MusicforAll is hosting a Summer Symposium for the young high school music lovers in June.The symposium is a week-long musical fest for students interested in concert band, jazz, orchestra, marching band and more.MusicforAll is a national organization that works to promote the importance of music education.Each night of the week, students can enjoy entertainment from various artists, including the U.S. Army Field Band and Barrage, a high-octane fiddle-fest featuring an international, multitalented cast performing an eclectic mix of songs and dance, according to a news release about the program.The symposium is from June 23 through June 28. The Early Bird registration is Monday. It costs $475. If you miss Monday's deadline, you should register before May 19; it will cost you $545 to sign up by the later deadline.The symposium is mostly for high school students, but in the past eighth graders have attended.For more information, visit www.musicforall.org.* * *The birds are going to be chirping at Harris Creek Elementary School. Staff are in the process of constructing a bird habitat with a $1,000 grant from NC Beautiful. The Harris Creek PTA chipped in another $1,000 and additional money and volunteer time from several local businesses, according to a news release from the school.The school is also planning a fun-filled day of activities geared to helping students "Think Green" at 9:30 a.m. April 11.
