Regarding the Aug. 16 letter “ Love as crime prevention”: It was infuriating to see someone making excuses for the alleged killers of Feng Liu so soon after his death.

The writer does not answer the most obvious question: Why don’t the millions of people the world over who have been abused and neglected as children, who grew up in “hostile and unloving” environments, bash in the head of a fellow human being with a rock in broad daylight?

These modern-day Cains kill for the pleasure of it. They embrace sin. There is no answer to their crimes but to hold them accountable for them. All the love in the world will not stay Cain’s hand, unless it is a love that teaches a sense of responsibility.
