Jimmy Cox: By the heart

The Aug. 28 news story “Ukraine orphan’s special trip ends” about the Cary family who wants to adopt the Ukrainian orphan was both sad and infuriating. Hundreds of illegal immigrants are in this country yet here is a family who wants to go through the proper channels to give this orphan a great home instead of an unknown future in a tent village, and it is not allowed. This is a crazy law.

Sheriff Andy Taylor of Mayberry once told deputy Barney Fife, “When you’re dealing with people, sometimes you do a whole lot better if you go not so much by the book, but by the heart.”

That makes a lot of sense in this situation.
