Brian Irving: Refusing PAC money

The note on the factbox accompanying your Sept. 2 news article “ Finance sectors’ PACs putting their money on Hagan” on Sen. Kay Hagan’s PAC contributions was disingenuous, to say the least.
There certainly is less than “insufficient detail” to generate data on Libertarian Sean Haugh’s PAC support. That’s because there is no detail. Haugh has not received nor will he accept PAC money.
Like all Libertarians, he not only believes it’s unseemly for a elected official to take gifts from the very people he’s supposed to be regulating, he doesn’t think he should have the power to regulate them in the first place. There’s nothing moderate about taking money from the very people you have the power to control. Lord Acton said that power corrupts.
The corollary to this is that without power in government there would be no corruption in government because there would be nothing to buy and sell.
