As a lifelong North Carolinian, small-business owner and Republican, I am astonished that the GOP has dismantled, delayed and deferred on our state’s film incentive package while offering a paltry replacement guaranteed to drive this industry from our state.
I have seen firsthand the real and tangible jobs created by this industry during the filming of “Safe Haven” in our beloved Southport. These jobs are not paper statistics kept by Raleigh bureaucrats, but rather real and tangible jobs that span from film crews to caterers to shop keepers and beyond. The excitement, enthusiasm and pride seeing our quaint fishing village so prominently displayed in film have continued to fill our shops, restaurants, real estate offices and businesses.
Why has North Carolina continued to grow and prosper while other states have stagnated? Simply, the word is out, and we have the N.C. film industry to thank.
The GOP that I believe in knows in its soul the power and importance of work; let’s recommit to that aim. The impact of this industry is incalculable, and the GOP needs to save it now!
Never miss a local story.
