Regarding the Sept. 12 editorial “ Wise course”: The News & Observer’s editorial board misrepresented my comments as a reaction to the president’s speech. In fact, the piece led me to believe the editorial board simply hasn’t been paying attention.
For the better part of a year I’ve called, publicly and privately, for actions that exceed what the president has done or has now proposed to do. My criticisms of this administration’s unwillingness to address this clear and present danger were released prior to the president’s speech and are not political commentary but rather a statement of fact.
The president neglected to address ISIL’s capabilities and barbaric acts and dismissed ISIL as the “JV” squad, even in the face of damning evidence to the contrary, until that strategy proved unsustainable.
While the American people continue to look for leadership from the White House on this critical national security issue, The N&O rises in defense of indecisiveness and half-measures.
Never miss a local story.
