I read with interest the Sept. 16 Point of View “ Export-Import Bank vital to North Carolina” by Harvey Schmitt, President and CEO of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. Another way that important legislation languishes or sunsets in Congress is related to the lack of reauthorization. Yes, there are some corporate welfare programs, but the Export-Import Bank isn’t want of them.
What it is, is a cost-effective means of fostering innovation, the growth of small businesses and job creation, all bi-partisan concepts and values. We should all be calling our congressional representatives with Schmitt’s message in front of us.
