Regarding the Sept. 26 news article “ Autopsy: Mentally ill inmate died of thirst”: I read with confusion about the death of inmate Michael Kerr. I understand that he had a mental illness, but his autopsy’s stated cause of death – dehydration – is a medical issue.
I’m upset that the 2011 report on terrible health care conditions at Central Prison apparently had no lasting effect on any of those in power. Sure, some low-level nurses, psychologists and officers have been fired as a result of Kerr’s death, but why have those who run the system – the department’s chief doctor, nurse and administrators – not been held accountable at all?
