As a Jew, I am distressed by the frequent fighting between the Israelis and Palestinians. We must recognize our own role and responsibility giving Israel over $3 billion in military aid annually – aid used to prolong Israel’s illegal occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
According to aidtoisrael.org, from 2009 to 2018, North Carolina taxpayers sent over $800 million to Israel. Aren’t there more important things on which to spend our money?
As a Jew, as an American and as a human, I want our country to respect equal rights and support those voices of hope among Israelis and Palestinians. This means ending our support for Israel’s occupation.
On a recent visit to Israel, I met with several Palestinian families. The message they asked me to bring home was this: “We want respect, equal rights, our land, water, an end to the Gaza blockade and peace.”
Never miss a local story.
