Regarding the Oct. 5 news article “ Senate race condenses in final debates”: It was a pleasant surprise to see The N&O clear the air on the primary campaign ads of Sen. Kay Hagan and House Speaker Thom Tillis. You provided more information on three-quarters of a page than any debate will.
Most debates do not hold speakers to the question, but rather let them give a prepared speech. I don’t think they educate anyone, but rather sing to the choir and hope someone makes a mistake.
As voters we are electing a U.S. senator, not a North Carolina House member. How we handle foreign policy, health care and the economy domestically and on the world stage matters.
